No Panic Button Needed for Bolts
Two games into the season, the whispers are deafening: “Norv Turner can’t get it done,” “L.T. isn’t the same player he was two years ago,” “The Chargers defense can’t stop anyone without Shawne Merriman.” I’m sick and tired of hearing that two last-second losses to good football teams immediately spells disaster for the Charger football team. Those types of games happen, and I’m about to explain why they aren't the end of the world…With the New York Jets coming to town Monday night, there’s no doubt the game is extremely important for San Diego. But is the game crucial? I say no. It seems impossible for a team to overcome an 0-3 hole, and still make it into the playoffs. But the key to the season lies ahead… on the schedule. Take a look with me:With the Raiders and Chiefs each twice ahead on the schedule, we can rest safely in the solace that this team will win four games. If you add in Tampa and Atlanta, I’m pretty confident we’ll be sitting nicely with 6 wins. And the rest isn’t all the bad either: Indy, Denver, and a Brady-less Patriots team at home, and a New Orleans team that can’t stop anyone on defense. If you combine those winnable games (and that doesn’t even include the Buffalo and Pittsburgh games, which San Diego VERY WELL could win), I’m seeing at least a 10 win season… and that doesn’t include Monday’s game, in which the Bolts are favored by 9 (according to vegasinsider.com). The point is, STOP PANICKING! San Diego is still one of the (if not THE) most talented teams in the NFL, and I would not be surprised at all to see them end the year with one of the best records in the AFC.
