		<description><![CDATA[<p>From May 28, 2008 San Diego Padres press release:</p>The San Diego Padres today acquired right-handed pitcher Cha Seung Baek from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-hander Jared Wells. <p>Baek, who turns 28 tomorrow, appeared in 10 games (one start) for the Mariners this season, going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (18 ER/30.0 IP) before he was designated for assignment on May 21.&nbsp; Born in Pusan, Korea and originally signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent on September 25, 1998, Baek is 10-9 with a 4.96 ERA (93 ER/168.2 IP) in 37 career Major League games (24 starts) over parts of four seasons with the Mariners (2004, 2006-08).&nbsp; He has compiled 107 strikeouts compared to 51 walks.&nbsp; Cha (chow) Seung (sung) Baek (beck) will join the Padres today and be active for tonight&rsquo;s game against the Washington Nationals. </p><p><a href="http://www.sandiegochargersnews.com/bretth/weblog/2329/san-diego-padres-acquire-pitcher-baek.html">Continue reading "San Diego Padres acquire pitcher Baek"</a></p>]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>From April 15, 2008 San Diego Chargers press release:&nbsp;</p><p>The San Diego Chargers were notified today by the National Football League that linebacker Stephen Cooper will miss the first four regular-season games of 2008 for violating the NFL policy on Steroids and Related Substances.&nbsp; </p><p>The following statement was issued today by an NFL spokesperson:&nbsp;Stephen Cooper of the San Diego Chargers has been suspended without pay for the team&rsquo;s first four regular-season games of 2008 for violating the NFL Policy on Steroids and Related Substances.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>Cooper's suspension begins on Saturday, August 30. Obviously they are off to a rough start and going into today have the worst record in baseball at 14-24 (.368). <p>Here is the stuff that matters from April 15 to date: </p><p>May 12, 2008 -- The San Diego Padres announced that they have purchased the contract of infielder Edgar Gonzalez from Triple-A Portland and have designated infielder Callix Crabbe for assignment.&nbsp; </p><p>Gonzalez, 29, was invited to Major League Spring Training with San Diego before being reassigned to minor league camp on March 18.&nbsp; He hit .293 (24-for-82) with a double, four home runs, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in 27 games for Triple-A Portland.&nbsp; With the Beavers, Gonzalez appeared in games at first base, second base, third base, left field, right field and designated hitter.&nbsp; Over parts of nine minor league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2000-03), Texas Rangers (2004), Washington Nationals (2005), Florida Marlins (2006), St. Louis Cardinals (2007) and Padres (2008), he has a career .297 (901-for-3037) batting average with 206 doubles, 29 triples, 64 home runs, 419 RBI and 434 runs scored.&nbsp; Gonzalez is the older brother of Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.&nbsp; </p><p><a href="http://www.sandiegochargersnews.com/bretth/weblog/1980/san-diego-padres-updates.html">Continue reading "San Diego Padres Updates"</a></p>]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>April 8, 2008 &ndash; From San Diego Padres press release:</p>The San Diego Padres today placed catcher Michael Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his right elbow and recalled catcher Colt Morton from Double-A San Antonio.&nbsp; Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.&nbsp; <p>Barrett, 31, suffered the injury in Monday&rsquo;s win at San Francisco.&nbsp; He is 2-for-8 with three runs scored and two walks in three games this season.&nbsp; In 1,020 Major League games with the Montreal Expos (1998-2003), Chicago Cubs (2004-2007) and Padres (2007-2008), Barrett has a career average of .266 (905-for-3,408) with 217 doubles, 21 triples, 95 home runs, 413 RBI, 389 runs and 271 walks. </p><p>Morton, who turns 26 on Thursday, is 3-for-12 with one double, two RBI and one walk in four games with San Antonio.&nbsp;&nbsp; He made one appearance for the Padres in 2007, making his Major League debut on September 21 vs. Colorado as a pinch-hitter.&nbsp; His contract was purchased from San Antonio on September 5, 2007.&nbsp; Morton hit .200 (3-for-15) with one home run, four RBI, three runs and one walk in 11 Spring Training games with the Padres this year.</p><p><a href="http://www.sandiegochargersnews.com/bretth/weblog/1866/san-diego-padres-place-barrett-on-dl.html">Continue reading "San Diego Padres place Barrett on DL"</a></p>]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[<p>Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!</p><p>May 5, 2008 -- Sorry for the delay in updating but I was the busy skipper of the PGSL Div. 1 (10U) Red Alert and we finished 2nd Saturday in our recreation league championship. Overall record was 10-5-2. 		<description><![CDATA[<p>April 16, 2008 -- From April 7, 2008 press release from the team</p>Chargers, Hart agree on new five-year contract <p>Chargers strong safety Clinton Hart agreed to terms on a new five-year contract Monday that will keep him in lightning bolts through the 2012 season.&nbsp; &nbsp; </p><p>&ldquo;We are very happy to have Clinton as a part of our future,&rdquo; Chargers General Manager A.J.
