The San Diego Chargers have re-signed four exclusive rights free agents: tackle Jeromey Clary, wide receiver Malcom Floyd, safety Steve Gregory and defensive tackle Brandon McKinney. Clary moved into the starting lineup in December and started the last five games of the regular season at right tackle. With him in the lineup, the Chargers rushed for 880 yards (176 ypg) and eight touchdowns and the Bolts went 5-0 during that stretch. Floyd saw action in six games, catching seven passes for 97 yards. Gregory played in all 16 games, seeing most of his action on special teams. His nine special teams tackles were fifth-most on the squad. Chargers center Nick Hardwick had surgery on March 14 to repair a sprained right foot. He is expected to undergo a four-to-six month recovery period. Hardwick suffered the injury early in the Chargers’ game against the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 14 and missed the next four games. April 16, 2008 -- San Diego Chargers to get compensatory choice
Chargers receive compensatory choice in fifth round of 2008 NFL Draft; in a press release from the NFL released through the Chargers...
A total of 32 compensatory choices in the 2008 NFL Draft have been awarded to 15 teams, the NFL announced today.
The Chargers received a fifth-round choice and now have a total of five picks in the 2008 NFL Draft. They include one in the first round (27th overall), two in the fifth round (160th and 166th) and one each in the sixth (192nd) and seventh (234th) rounds.
Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks. The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 220 choices in the seven rounds of the 2008 NFL Draft (April 26-27).

Harris, Gordon sign one-year contracts
Chargers restricted free agent linebacker Marques Harris and exclusive rights free agent cornerback Cletis Gordon have both signed their one-year contract tenders and are now under contract for the 2008 season.
Harris has been a key reserve and special teams player throughout his three years with the Bolts. In 2007, he appeared in 15 games and started two at outside linebacker, recording 1.5 sacks and eight special teams tackles. He originally joined the Chargers in 2005 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Southern Utah State.
Gordon saw action in 14 games last season, mostly on special teams where he recorded eight tackles. Gordon joined the Chargers in 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Jackson State.

Chargers open preseason with Cowboys, face Seahawks on Monday Night FootballThe two-time defending AFC West Champion San Diego Chargers will open the 2008 preseason at home on Saturday, Aug. 9 against the defending NFC East Champion Dallas Cowboys. Coached by former Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, the Cowboys are led by wide receiver Terrell Owens and quarterback Tony Romo. Kickoff time will be announced at a later date. This will be the Chargers’ first preseason game against the Cowboys since 1989.
Week Two of the preseason has the Chargers headed to St. Louis to take on the Rams. It’s the second year in a row that the Bolts will play in the Gateway City. These two teams have an extensive preseason history as 2008 will mark the 36th preseason meeting. The Chargers beat the Rams, 30-13, last season to grab an 18-17 series edge. Date and kickoff time are TBD.

SP's All-Star Sack Attack Supports After-School All-Stars and San Diego’s Inner City Youth
San Diego, CA – Shaun Phillips is gearing up for a new season with a dual goal: to increase the number of sacks he achieves and to increase his support of after-school programs for inner-city kids through the After-School All-Stars (ASAS).
As was the case in 2007, Phillips will pledge $1,000 for each sack recorded in the upcoming season to ASAS. A reception to kick off the program and to honor Phillips will take place on Legacy Plaza at the NTC Promenade on April 15 from 4-7 pm. Several youth participants will be on hand to workout with Phillips.

Chargers, Hart agree on new five-year contractChargers strong safety Clinton Hart agreed to terms on a new five-year contract Monday that will keep him in lightning bolts through the 2012 season.
“We are very happy to have Clinton as a part of our future,” Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said. “He was a first-year starter last year and was a major part of our team’s success. We believe his best football is ahead of him.”
After spending three seasons as a key reserve and special teams player with the Chargers, Hart became a full-time starter for the first time in 2007. He started all 16 regular-season games and all three playoff games at strong safety. During the regular season, Hart was the club’s third-leading tackler with 109 stops, trailing only Stephen Cooper and Matt Wilhelm. He also finished second on the team with five interceptions and tied for second with four tackles for loss.

Charger Girl auditions begin April 13The San Diego Charger Girls are holding open auditions on Sunday, April 13 at the University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion. Registration and check-in begins promptly at 9 a.m., followed by a preliminary dance audition starting at 10 a.m.
The Charger Girls are one of professional sports’ most exciting and competitive dance teams. In recent years, the very popular day-long dance audition has seen over 400 hopefuls from across the nation and overseas try-out for only 28 highly-coveted spots.
“We are one of the premier dance teams in professional sports and our auditions are always hotly-contested,” Charger Girl Director Lisa Simmons said. “We are always looking for a lot of energy and excitement on audition day. Applicants can expect a very competitive atmosphere.”
