April 8, 2008 – From San Diego Padres press release:

The San Diego Padres today placed catcher Michael Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with a strained ligament in his right elbow and recalled catcher Colt Morton from Double-A San Antonio.  Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Barrett, 31, suffered the injury in Monday’s win at San Francisco.  He is 2-for-8 with three runs scored and two walks in three games this season.  In 1,020 Major League games with the Montreal Expos (1998-2003), Chicago Cubs (2004-2007) and Padres (2007-2008), Barrett has a career average of .266 (905-for-3,408) with 217 doubles, 21 triples, 95 home runs, 413 RBI, 389 runs and 271 walks.

Morton, who turns 26 on Thursday, is 3-for-12 with one double, two RBI and one walk in four games with San Antonio.   He made one appearance for the Padres in 2007, making his Major League debut on September 21 vs. Colorado as a pinch-hitter.  His contract was purchased from San Antonio on September 5, 2007.  Morton hit .200 (3-for-15) with one home run, four RBI, three runs and one walk in 11 Spring Training games with the Padres this year.
