SP's All-Star Sack Attack Supports After-School All-Stars and San Diego’s Inner City Youth
San Diego, CA – Shaun Phillips is gearing up for a new season with a dual goal: to increase the number of sacks he achieves and to increase his support of after-school programs for inner-city kids through the After-School All-Stars (ASAS).
As was the case in 2007, Phillips will pledge $1,000 for each sack recorded in the upcoming season to ASAS. A reception to kick off the program and to honor Phillips will take place on Legacy Plaza at the NTC Promenade on April 15 from 4-7 pm. Several youth participants will be on hand to workout with Phillips.
The Phillips' initiative called SP’s All-Star Sack Attack was kicked off last season with the objective to provide more opportunities for kids to experience sports. In 2007, he recorded 8.5 sacks for a donation of $8,500. Three local companies matched Phillip’s generous contribution: Carrows Restaurants, The UPS Store and Coco's Restaurant & Bakery for a total donation of $34,000 to After-School All-Stars.
“I’m excited to support After-School All-Stars’ sports programs because they provide kids with opportunities to learn the principles of teamwork and discipline just like I did when I was a kid,” said Phillips. “I am looking forward to a great season in the fall and having more local businesses join me in helping inner city children through the SP’s All-Star Sack Attack.”
“Shaun has been a great supporter this year, attending events with the kids and promoting his program,” said Marti Hess, Executive Director, After-School All-Stars San Diego. “We’re also very thankful for the matching donations from Carrows, Coco’s and UPS Stores. With this generous support we’ve been able to enhance and expand our sports programs.”
Legacy Plaza is located at the NTC Promenade in Point Loma, off Truxtun Road between Roosevelt and Dewey.
